Treadmill

Otherwise known as “the ol’ hamster wheel’.
This classic, whether electric or man powered, is a necessity at every gym for a reason. The treadmill allows your body to move how you’re meant to move and doesn’t restrict any parts of your body. This is always a full and complete workout.
Cycling Bike
Efficiency: A- Affordability: A Functionality: B
A great choice for cardio! Though these machines promise comfort and the ability to adjust based on whomever is riding, they tend to be a bit uncomfortable and in many cases can cause bruising after long-term use (in very term… interesting areas).These bikes do have the option of long-distance and high intensity intervals that will burn plenty of calories in no time. They ride much smoother than a regular bike and feel very natural.
Indoor Rower
Efficiency: A Affordability: A- Functionality: A
The indoor rower is an extremely effective way to do cardio. It works the entire body and can burn crazy amounts of calories. It’s not something you even need to be good at because the machine does most of he work for you. Technique is still important when operating this machine and can limit the amount of calories burned.
Stairmill
Efficiency: A+ Affordability: C Functionality: A
The stairmill is a go-to for training your booty and your body. Performing this workout in intervals is your best bet for getting an intense workout that will leave you so so sore the next day! It gets me every time, but it’s definitely my personal favorite.
Jacob’s Ladder
Efficiency: A+ Affordability: D Functionality: B
The idea of a never ending ladder sounds like something out of a nightmare but does provide an intense workout. It does take some time to get used to though. Don’t expect to hop on and be able to get right in the swing of things. On the other hand, this infinite ladder provides such an amazing workout on your quads, glutes, shoulders, lats and burns plenty of calories.
Elliptical
Efficiency: D Affordability: A Functionality: D
If you’re not used to moving your body or have an injury then this workout is your best bet. It also makes a great warm-up. However, using this machine as your primary workout is not going to burn many calories and is very awkward to use. The resistance would have to be set higher than 10 to see any real results.
Recumbent Bike
Efficiency: F Affordability: A+ Functionality: A+
For cardio training, this bike is on the lazier end. It only works your legs (very poorly) and doesn’t engage the rest of your body in the workout. It does however make a good seat if you need to send a few text messages and answer a few e-mails at the gym.
