How To Stick To Your Diet When You’re Dining Out
Aug 22, 2018Let’s say you’re out with your friends at your favorite restaurant when a wild menu appears and starts questioning your diet.
In most of my past events, my efforts have been ineffective when attacking this sort of situation. I feel more for food than I do most people so it is hard for me to make the wisest decisions when eating in a restaurant; especially when you’re surrounded by friends who are all on “diet breaks”.
More recently, I have definitely overcome my battles and won over the urges by using these simple precautions:
1. Look at the menu before you go out!
This step has saved me so many times. Not only can you prepare your pockets, you will also be able to mentally prepare your plans so that you make the correct choices at dinner. Looking out the menu ahead of time will allow you to google all of your needed nutrition facts. A lot of restaurants even have alternative options that allow you to meet your dietary needs and enjoy the time out with your friends.
2. Don’t be afraid to suggest a change in place!
Unless it’s a birthday party, these kind of suggestions usually run over pretty well. If you do a little digging in your smart phone and find a few other suggestions you should be good to go; especially if the suggestion is yummier than that of the previous.
3. Tell the waiter your dietary restrictions!
Most restaurants will actually cook you a custom order out of respect for your diet. You would be surprised at how often I’ve had something exclusively made to meet my dietary needs. Not only do you feel like a super star but you will feel much better knowing that the meal is exactly what you want without picking around the food.
4. Don’t succumb to peer pressure!
If your friends are anything like mine then they just cannot eat their double fried cheesecake platter alone. It’s better to just say no than to have the guilt of breaking your diet later.
5. What is it worth?
Sometimes our diets can cause us to be a bit strict. It’s okay to let lose and enjoy a taste of something different every now and then. Decide what you can and cannot have by logging your nutrition on your smart phone. Keeping close to your daily intake can help you visually see how bad the food you’re bargaining with really is. Remember that you can always work it off right after!
Keeping up with a diet is very challenging and by taking some of these precautions you will surely be able to have your diet keep up with you.
