Vegan Protein Packed Donuts
Aug 22, 2018Happy National Donut Day!
In the spirit of this wonderful day, it was only necessary to come up with a vegan protein packed alternative that will satisfy your donut cravings.
Did you Know? The Salvation Army started National Donut Day to commemorate the “donut lassies,” female Salvation Army volunteers who provided items, meals, clothes, and of course donuts for soldiers on the front lines. This was a great way to raise funds and bring awareness to The Salvation Army’s service programs during the Great Depression. ( Source )
Recipe:
Donut Base:
1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup of (your choice) nut/seed butter
2 tablespoons of honey
1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
1 scoop of Vpro Protein Powder (I recommend chocolate)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
Frosting:
2/3 cup dark chocolate
1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
1 tablespoon of vegan butter
(Sprinkles are optional)
How To:
• Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F and grease a donut pan.
• Make the donut batter by combining the applesauce, nut/ seed butter, honey, vanilla, salt, baking soda, protein powder, and cocoa in a medium bowl.
• Place the batter into the donut pan. You should end up with 5 donuts.
• Bake for 8-13 minutes. After 8 minutes, take the pan out of the oven and test to see if the donuts are done. The bake time depends largely on the kind of nut/seed butter that you use.
• Once done let cool completely before icing.
• Make icing by melting chocolate and stirring in the butter and cocoa powder.
• Ice each donut then add the sprinkles
• Lastly, Enjoy!
