Losing isn’t easy (especially if you’ve never lost weight before)
Aug 22, 2018You can always go on a starve yourself diet and quickly lose a few pounds. Chances are you will just as quickly gain back what you lost. If your goal is to maintain muscle, but lose excess fat, it WILL take some SERIOUS WORK.
First Address the Lies (In Your Head):
Sometimes we lie to ourselves because it’s convenient. BUT when it comes to weight loss, there is nothing convenient about it. Avoid the guilt-trip and start by accepting the truth:
“Weight loss is easy because…”
There is NO because. For most people, losing weight means making changes to your whole lifestyle, not just eating less chocolate. Expectations are key in the weight loss battle…Rome wasn’t conquered in a day either!
“Losing weight means HUNGER…”
Most people experience initial hunger pangs when they change their diet. When you start replacing unhealthy foods with foods containing more natural fiber and protein, you can initially experience hunger. This is just your body adjusting – stick with it and you will start feeling full in no time.
“If I skip the calories, I can skip the exercise…”
Exercise is key to any healthy lifestyle, especially when you are trying to lose weight. Be sure to incorporate regular exercise into your life if you want to lose (and keep off) the pounds.
“My friend loses weight by just looking at a treadmill…”
The sad :( truth is that genetics can play a role in your body’s composition and manner in which it processes foods. No diet or exercise program fits all body types. What works for your marathon running, cross fit jumping, scuba diver friend, may not work for you.
“I can never eat another carb again…EVER”
Complex carbs are actually good for you and should be included in your daily menu (i.e. fruits, veggies, whole grains.) Your body uses carbs as a primary energy source which can fuel your mind at work and your muscles at the gym. AVOID simple carbs – like sugars, soft drinks, and processed foods.
Quick Tips for the RoadHYDRATE!! WITH WATER. I mean LOTS. Eliminate sugary drinks completely.
✅NEVER grocery shop when hungry. EVER! Have a snack before venturing in.
✅FIND an exercise you actually enjoy. Not all of us want to join the 6am jogger club.
✅COLLECT fun recipes that fit in your diet. Remember the “3 Vs” – Variety, Variety, Variety!
✅IDENTIFY a list of healthy snacks (nuts, raw veggies, apples) and bring them with you on the go.
✅STAY positive and stick to your game plan. Negative thoughts are the #1 killer of a solid diet.
LASTLY: Losing weight takes courage. The fact that you are reading this is an excellent sign. Half the battle is the desire to change. The other half is just the discipline to make the right choices for your body.
